EMICODE Certification

February 27, 2020

In order to achieve a healthy environment, it is important to pay attention to ingredients of materials for flooring installation and construction products such as insulation panels, adhesives or seals. To ensure greatest possible protection regarding health, environmental and indoor air hygiene, you should rely on materials awarded the EMICODE® label. They are very low in emissions, meet the strictest tolerances and standards and are permanently monitored by independent inspection bodies.

The EMICODE® classification system was introduced in 1997 by GEV (Gemeinschaft Emissionskontrollierte Verlegewerkstoffe, Klebstoffe und Bauprodukte e.V.) and has become the key national and international quality benchmark for a wide range of product groups.

In order to be awarded the EMICODE® label, manufacturers need to submit their products to extensive testing at recognized institutions. Based on the scientifically determined measurement data, EMICODE® categorizes flooring installation materials, adhesives and construction products into three emission classes.

Only materials complying with the strict emission requirements shall be awarded the EMICODE® label. Manufacturers undertake to produce these materials according to high quality safety standards and under strict monitoring in order to fulfil the EMICODE® requirements at any time.

To ensure maximum reliability of the emission claims for the materials, the products are regularly submitted to random spot checks by independent, internationally recognized testing institutes.

This offers consumers, craftsmen and architects guidance to decide which materials offer maximum security against indoor air pollution and guarantee the best health protection and high environmental compatibility.

Categories:

  • Materials low in emissions are awarded the EMICODE® EC2 label. This category fulfils the basic requirements to be awarded the EMICODE® label.
  • The highest category, EMICODE® EC1 has proven its worth in practice as a standard for materials very low in emissions. The materials awarded this label comply with the strictest environmental and health requirements.
  • The EMICODE® label EC1 PLUS denotes the premium category, describing the limit of technological feasibility. Introduced in 2010, it sets even higher and stricter limit values than the best category EC1.

Novamix products with the EC1 PLUS label, always meeting your most demanding needs, have been certified with the highest available class of EMICODE® certification.
