Reinforcing bars as well as concrete should be free of loose elements, grease, oils and rust. Large amounts of rust on the reinforcing bars are removed by sandblasting, where this is not mechanically possible with a brush. For removing surface rust, it is recommended to use RUST CONVERTER.
Preparation of the mix:
Add the required amount of water to a suitable container and add the material (2Kg powder) with stirring. Mix with an electric mixer at low speed (500 rpm) for 2 - 3 minutes until the mixture is completely homogenized. The mortar should be applied under normal conditions within 30 - 45 minutes of mixing. Low temperatures extend the life of the mortar while high temperatures decrease workability.
Application of the mix:
The application should be in two layers with a total thickness of at least 2mm. Apply a first coat with a flat brush on the properly prepared surface. Apply the second coat when the first has hardened enough, about 2 hours later. In any case the application should overlap the entire surface with uniform thickness.
For use as a sealant in all critical areas, such as floor joining with vertical surfaces, the sealing zone must be strengthened using a suitable fiberglass mesh.
- Apply only upon structurally stable and well-prepared substrate
- Apply NOVAFER immediately after cleaning the bars. Wait 24 hours if RUST CONVERTER is applied
- Do not add cement, gypsum, lime or other materials that might affect the properties of the mortar
- Do not apply in ambient temperatures less than +5°C and higher than +35°C
- Protect the application surface from rain or frost the first 24 hours
- For incorporating fiberglass mesh the thickness of the first layer must be 1mm
- Do not exceed the maximum thickness per layer
- Do not apply in total thickness less than 2 mm
- Do not wet between the layers
- It is recommended that the application be made by a professional
Due to the increased adhesion of NOVAFER it is recommended to clean tools before the material starts to set. Once the material has dried, cleaning can be done only by mechanical means.
