SC ELASTIC

One component flexible cement based waterproofing mortar

One-component, flexible cement-based waterproofing and concrete protection mortar. Ideal for protection of reinforced concrete in highly corrosive environment such as bridges and structures near the sea. It is also applied as a waterproofing material of absorbent substrates such as: cement screeds, cementitious coatings, masonry mortars, cement boards and non-absorbent substrates such as existing paving, polished terrazzo before coverings such as marble and stone, microcement coatings PLANOCOLOR MICROCEMENT, PLANOCOLOR TERRAZZO micro-pebble coatings, PLANOCOLOR GRANIT “stone carpet” in outdoor floors, showers and swimming pools. Minimum total application thickness: 2mm. In cement boards, corners and for better thickness control, it is recommended to apply with NOVAMIX FIBERGLASS NET incorporation.

Description

  • SC ELASTIC is suitable for waterproofing and protecting in:
    • reinforced concrete in a highly corrosive environment such as bridges and structures near the sea while increasing resistance to carbonization
    • concrete and cement-based surfaces such as roof tops, terraces and surfaces exposed to weather conditions
    • masonry that comes into contact with the ground, such as foundations, basements, flowerpots, etc.
    • swimming pools, balconies, bathrooms, wet areas and external floorings prior to application of tiles, natural stones as well as the PLANOCOLOR GRANIT, MICROCEMENT and TERRAZZO (micro pebble coatings).
    • masonry materials, such as gypsum boards, cement boards
  • Form: powder
  • Application thickness: Total thickness at least 2 mm, 1 mm per layer
  • POT life: ≈ 45 – 60 minutes /20°C
  • Walkability: after 2 - 5 hours
  • Application temperature: from +8°C up to +35°C

Substrate preparation:

Τhe cementitious substrates should be compact, free from cracks, and clear of dust, salts, fats, or any other materials that could reduce the adhesion of SC ELASTIC. Carbonated or generally weak concrete or cementitious substrates should be removed until the substrate is compact and coarse with a minimum tensile strength of > 1.5 N/mm². Repairs, where needed, should be carried out using NOVAMIX RUST CONVERTER, NOVAFER, and RC 340. Existing cracks in the substrate should be bonded using the two-component epoxy adhesive NOVAMIX EPO FLUID. In applications where water ingress occurs (negative pressure), it is necessary to first seal the leaks using the fast-setting waterproofing agent NOVAMIX SC FAST. In cases where the application is on absorbent substrates such as concrete, cementitious coatings, etc., in high temperatures, thorough wetting of the substrate should precede the application, avoiding the presence of stagnant water. Existing floor and/or wall coverings such as ceramic tiles, granite tiles, marbles, mosaics, etc., must be securely fixed to the substrate and free from any residues that may affect adhesion. If necessary, clean the surface according to the type of surface dirt using ALCALINE CLEANER or ACID CLEAN TURBO and rinse with clean water. For more information, refer to the respective Technical Data Sheets of the products.

Preparation of the mix:

Add the 20kg powder into a suitable container containing 4 – 6 liters of clean water, while stirring. Mix with an electric mixer at low speed (500 RPM) for 3 - 5 minutes until achieving complete homogenization of the mixture without lumps. For small quantities, mixing can be done by hand. The mixture is now ready for use. The mortar should be applied under normal conditions within 45 – 60 minutes from the start of mixing. After this period, do not attempt to re-mix it with water. Low temperatures extend the working time of the mortar, while high temperatures drastically reduce workability.

Application:

The mixture should be applied in at least two layers using a flat brush, roller, or even a spatula on a properly prepared surface. The total application thickness should not be less than 2 mm. For better thickness control, it is recommended to embed a suitable alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh such as NOVAMIX FIBERGLASS NET in the first layer of the mortar while it is still wet and smooth the surface with a metal spatula. The application should cover the entire surface with a uniform thickness. Allow each previous layer to harden before applying the next one. In all critical areas, such as the floor-to-vertical surface junction, the waterproofing zone should be reinforced using an appropriate fiberglass mesh. After applying SC ELASTIC, allow it to cure in a relatively humid environment. Protect the wet mortar from rapid drying with suitable means.

Recommendations:

  • Apply only on structurally stable and prepared substrates
  • Avoid application under direct sunlight and/or strong wind
  • Do not add water, cement, gypsum, lime, or any other materials that may affect the properties of the mortar
  • Do not apply on PVC membranes, asphalt sheets, or other materials that polymerize long-term
  • Do not apply at substrate and ambient temperatures below +8°C and above +35°C
  • Protect from rain or frost for the first 24 hours
  • Do not apply in pools without a proper coating
  • Use cementitious adhesives of category C2 for tile installation
  • For mesh incorporation, the thickness of the first layer should be at least 1 mm
  • Do not apply to a total thickness less than 2 mm
  • Do not saturate between layers
  • Professional application is recommended

Cleaning:

Due to the increased adhesion of SC ELASTIC it is recommended to clean tools before the material starts to set. Once the material has dried, cleaning can be done only by mechanical means.
